I made a huge batch of these for my DofE practice walk, and am planning on making an even bigger batch for the real thing! They are perfect to pop in your mouth when you need a little energy, or if you fancy a sweet treat.

Did I mention these energy balls are made with just 5 ingredients?! You could also swap out any ingredients for what you have on hand, meaning these plant-based treats are just minutes away! Here are two more reasons why you should make these energy balls ASAP:

  • I see you - trying to stay awake during those late night revision sessions. Take a break, make these energy bites, and you will be able to focus better. So basically, these energy balls are the gateway to good grades :)
  • Two words - meal. prep. I love to make a batch or two of these at the weekend and bring a few to college for when I get the munchies. I suspect kids would like these too!

Makes: 6-8, depending on how big you make each ball
Time: 10 minutes

  • 30 grams of oats
  • 20 grams of raw Almonds (or Hazelnuts/Walnuts)
  • 30 grams of pitted dates
  • 1 teaspoon peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  1. Add the oats and nuts to a blender/food processor. and blitz. (I used my trusty smoothie blender aka my one true love)
  2. Add the blitzed oats/nuts to a medium bowl. Put the dates, PB and cocoa powder into the blender and blend until sticky and combined. You may need to give it a hand by adding a *tiny amount* of water.
  3. Add the date paste to the oat/nut mixture. Using your hands bring everything together into a dough. Add more oats/peanut butter as necessary to achieve a roll-able consistency.
  4. Roll the dough into 6-8 balls. Store these in the fridge (or eat them all at once, I wont judge)
Now what are you waiting for? Get up and make these delicious energy bites. And don't forget to share your creations with me on Instagram using the hashtag #shivanilovesfood !
